You’ll even enjoy a few technical parts of the track, helping you learn some of the trail-riding basics and fundamentals.
Ride the trail in a counterclockwise direction for the best experience. There are many trailheads and options for accessing the Grand Gap Loop so make sure you’re paying attention as you ride.
John Muir Trail: Exciting for Intermediates
This 7.5-mile, point-to-point singletrack trail is great for intermediate riders. While the trail itself isn’t particularly challenging, riders enjoy the beautiful vistas and high cliffs that are featured throughout the ride. You’ll ascend and descend around 900 feet making for a great workout and time to improve your biking skills.
The John Muir Trail (JMR) is accessible from the Grand Gap Loop Trail as well. This is a good option for you if you are wanting to extend your ride.
Kentucky Bike Trail: Excellent for Experts
This moderate to advanced level terrain is an excellent option for those with more mountain riding experience. Endurance is needed to ride both the short and long versions of this difficult trail. Most expert riders will enjoy the long loop that measures almost 34 miles. If you consider yourself between intermediate and expert skill levels you can still enjoy the 16-mile shorter loop as well.
The Kentucky Bike Trail does involve multiple trailheads and pieces of other multiple-use trails. Make sure you’re prepared with the essentials, bring along a park map, and keep an eye out for signs to help keep you on track.
