Just 6 miles from Laurel Fork Rustic Retreat, Pickett State Forest (Black House Mountain) offers over 34 miles of designated roads for ATV and OHV riding. This area remains one of the most scenic riding destinations in the region. Known for its rugged beauty, the area features natural arches, waterfalls, caves, a mineral lake, and uncommon rock formations across a diverse forest landscape that spans over 20,000 acres.
Motorized Use Roads:
Redmond Mountain Road (before Carpenter Rockhouse split)
Yellow Doors Road (Open March 15 – December 20)
Redmond Rim Road (Open March 15 – December 20)
All other roads and trails in this area are non-motorized only.
⚠️ Important: Access into Kentucky via Redmond Mountain Road and Carpenter Rockhouse Road is now blocked by gates at the forest boundary.
📍 Enter via Store 14 Road, then veer left at the Redmond Mountain Road split for motorized access.
Tips for Riders
Riding is free, but map availability is limited, so plan ahead.
Stop by the Pickett State Park office for maps and up-to-date conditions.
Carry a good GPS device or offline map app to avoid getting lost—cell service can be spotty.
