Sizzlin' September at Big South Fork

Sizzlin' September is upon us & boy are there some awesome upcoming events!  

In 2015, The Big South Fork averaged around 650,000 visitors. A lot of the park's visitors gather in the months of September, October, and November due to the array of events being held in and around the park. Some of the biggest and best events and festivals of the year will be happening this September at the Big South Fork. There are fun options for people of all ages and interests. Take a look at what's coming up.

September 3rd - Astronomy Program at Bandy Creek in The Big South Fork

Join a ranger for a evening of dark sky viewing at Bandy Creek Visitor Center. Presentations will include constellation tours, and telescope viewing of stars, star clusters, planets, nebulae, galaxies, and the International Space Station.

September 10th - Blue Heron Ghost Train at Big South Fork Scenic Railway

Ride the Blue Heron Ghost Train and enjoy a trip to The Blue Heron Coal Mining Community while listening to chilling tales from the hills and hollows of the Cumberland Plateau. Event starts at 7PM EST.


September 10th - Wings Over Big South Fork Air & Car Show

One of the most spectacular events in the heart of The Big South Fork. Gates open at 8AM EST.

September 15th-17th - Blazin Bluegrass Music Festival at The Big South Fork

The Festival is held every year on the 3rd weekend in September. It is a 3 days event with wonderful bands, good food and fun for the entire family. 


September 16th-18th - Brimstone Paragon

Brimstone Recreation's newest Fall ATV event featuring Hank Williams Jr. in concert.

September 17th - Annual Haunting in the Hills at The Big South Fork 

By far the number one event at The Big South Fork! Join thousands of folks at Bandy Creek Visitor Center and enjoy a fun-filled day of stories, music, crafts, and more. As the sun starts to sit get comfy with your family on the lawn and enjoy a evening of spooky campfire story's.

September 24th - Heritage Festival at the Museum of Scott County

Scott High students will be dressed in costumes to act out activities such as churning butter, tanning hides, making apple butter, making sorghum, and many other activities. The Scott High Bluegrass Band will be performing along with other local bands. There will be corn hole toss, face painting, horseshoes, Native Americans performing a pow wow as well as demonstrating flint knappig, and frontier rifle makers and long hunters giving demonstrations.
